Mr. Brightside (The Killers) Closing Thoughts

The rise of YouTube, TikTok, and even Instagram, has resulted in a whole host of meme songs infesting our ears. Many of them put a smile on our faces whenever we hear them. Let’s introduce you to some of the funniest meme songs of all time, shall we?

Just as a note, there may be some ‘foul’ language included in this list. We can’t really help it. A lot of the meme songs involve that in some way, and that is how they ended up becoming memes. We will try and keep it to the minimum, though. We promise!

The 57+ Best & Funniest Meme Songs Of All Time

1. Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley)

This is a classicmeme song. We are pretty sure that almost everybody has been Rickrolled at some point.

This means that you click a link expecting it to be something awesome, only to hear the beats of Never Gonna Give You Up playing. Although, to be honest, the song is so great that we can’t complain.

Rick Astley really bought into the whole idea of the Rickroll too (apparently, he makes a ton of money from it). While his career was never awful back in the 1980s, he has performed the song with some pretty big bands including The Foo Fighters.

2. All Star (Smash Mouth)

Somebody once told me…yeah. We bet you know the rest of the song. It has been around for a while, but it was Shrek that brought it to popularity.

The song is regularly quoted online (check Reddit whenever somebody says “somebody once told me”), and there have been plenty of parodies too.

Life as a meme song started “Mario You’re a Plumber” in 2009, and the song has gone from strength to strength since then.

3. Jiggle Jiggle (Jason Derulo, Duke & Jones, Louis Theroux, Amelia Dimz)

Louis Theroux is a mild-mannered documentary maker. A couple of decades ago, one of his shows featured him putting together a rap.

Pretty simple stuff. Not forgettable, but we doubt many people really paid attention to it outside of the UK.

This all changed during the COVID pandemic, though. The song Jiggle Jiggle became somewhat of a meme (mild-mannered British guy rapping), and it eventually resulted in a remixed version from Duke & Jones.

4. Friday (Rebecca Black)

A few years ago (which is an eternity in the age of the internet), Rebecca Black’s parents paid for her to have a song recorded at one of those mall song booths.

Nothing crazy. The song ended up autotuned to hell. She probably didn’t expect anybody to pay attention.

It was uploaded to YouTube, and several million views later, she became a meme (poor girl, she was only 13). Although, it did result in a collab with Katy Perry, and Rebecca now has a bit of success on YouTube.

5. Curb Your Enthusiasm Theme

The Curb Your Enthusiasm theme is used extensively to round off funny videos where somebody makes a ‘mistake’ at the end.

Much like the TV show where everything just goes wrong. The theme is often paired with the TV show credits, just for an extra bit of oomph.

6. The Next Episode (Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Nate Dogg)

The sick beats in this early 2000s Dr. Dre track have worked their way into many meme videos. We have seen plenty of videos that have been capped off with some of the many awesome lines in this song.

It is meant to be a symbol of ‘cool’. You know the sort of thing. Somebody does something awesome on camera, everybody stares, and boom, next thing you know, Dr. Dre is serenading you.

7. Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen)

This is a song that is no longer the meme that it was, but you can still find remnants of it all over YouTube.

Back in the day, this song resulted in many, many different people putting together videos where they mimed along to the music. Pretty funny stuff, with nurses, the army, and pretty much everybody getting in on the action.

No idea why it became a meme song, but we enjoyed the time that it was around.

8. The Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkle)

Hello, darkness my old friend…

Putting aside the fact that this song is just plain wonderful, it often caps off videos where people are left alone.

Plenty of meme action with The Sound of Silence, and you will find it in countless videos. We have also seen it used in videos where people make mistakes or lose something.

9. Baby Shark (Pinkfong)

Baby Shark had its fifteen minutes of fame. It isn’t around anywhere near as much nowadays, but we reckon that there are very few of you who don’t know “baby shark do do do baby shark”.

It spawned countless videos online, and pretty much every kid was singing along to it. It even managed to get a place on talent shows.

10. Axel F (Crazy Frog)

This is probably one of the original meme songs. Obviously, Axel F comes from Beverly Hills Cop.

Crazy Frog was an annoying character that would make random sounds. Turns out, it was a great match for Axel F, and this song ended up dominating the charts all over Europe.

Crazy Frog was a hit… but the meme ended up dying off before YouTube was a thing.

11. Sandstorm (Darude)

This is a meme song that probably doesn’t get anywhere near the amount of play that it deserves. The whole idea is that if somebody asks what a particular song is, you just answer “Sandstorm – Darude”.

No idea how this meme came into being, but it is pretty fun online. Plus, if anybody does end up watching the music video, they are going to fall in love with the tune.

12. Wonderwall (Oasis)

Wonderwall is a song that pretty much anybody with a guitar learns. Head to a party, and if somebody pulls out an acoustic, chances are they will play Wonderwall.

This has evolved into a meme with people saying “anyway, here’s Wonderwall”. It is a song that many guitar shops have even banned because it gets so much play.

13. Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Freebird is a meme song before people even knew what a meme song was. It has been going on for decades.

If you’ve heard the song you will know that it is absolutely stunning, although it lasts almost 15 minutes. Back in the day, it wasn’t uncommon for people to scream at bands “play Freebird”, although they very rarely did.

14. Harlem Shake (Baauer)

This is another meme song that was kicking around for a while, but eventually died.

It comes from the age when people would be doing random dances in public. Harlem Shake involved people doing seemingly normal stuff and then, boom, the songwould end up playing.

People would then be in all sorts of crazy costumes and doing banging dance moves.

15. Gangnam Style (PSY)

This is one of the most viewed music videos on YouTube. Gangnam Style is a Korean song with a pretty amazing dance.

Lots of people ended up copying the dance, and a meme was born. Again, the song has died out a little bit, but we still remember the awesomeness of this track when it was kicking around for a few months.

16. Miracles (Insane Clown Posse)

The song itself isn’t so much as the meme, but more some of life’s observations in the song.

If you have been around the internet for a while, then you will have likely seen the words “fucking magnets, how do they work?” used at some point. Well, that originated in this song. Absolutely insane line, but one that seemingly stands the test of time.

17. Me!Me!Me! (TeddyLoid, Daoko)

If you have been active in anime communities, then you will have probably heard of this song. It was a meme for a little bit.

The song is probably best known for the catchy art style, and some very suggestive lyrics. The song got millions of views, and it eventually resulted in a ton of remixes.

Sadly, it didn’t get much use outside of the anime community, but you can check it out yourself for a bit of fun.

18. Roundabout (Yes)

Another song that is particularly famous in the anime community, mostly because it has close ties to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

It was a big deal on Vine, and to some extent on TikTok. Owing to the use of the song in the anime, the song is regularly paired with funny videos that end on a suspenseful note.

The “To Be Continued” line will appear on the screen, the song plays, and that is the end of it. It has been used millions of times like that.

19. No Mercy (The Living Tombstone, BlackGryphon, LittleJayneyCakes)

This is a funny meme song tied to the Overwatch community. It is a song about the selection of characters, with some rather catchy lyrics. You may know it for the line “I’m already Tracer’.

It seems to be going through a bit of a resurgence on sites like TikTok where it is being used heavily in duet videos. Probably one just for the Overwatch community, but still a pretty fun listen.

20. Epic Sax Guy: Run Away (Sunstroke Project, Olia Tira)

This song has been dubbed ‘saxroll’, so you probably already know what this meme song has been used for.

People expect an awesome video, and then they discover somebody knocking out one of the most incredible sax solos of all time (well, one that wasn’t in Baker Street, at least).

Not to mention, the dubbed ‘Epic Sax Guy’ is actually from the prestigious, Eurovision Song Contest. If you get this saxroll, we bet you leave with a smile on your face.

21. Surfin Bird – Bird is the Word (Originally by The Trashmen, Performed by Peter Griffin on Family Guy)

Well, “bird, bird, bird, bird is the word” are words we have most likely heard at some point…

Obviously, Surfin Bird has been around for a while, but it was really turned into a meme when it was featured in Family Guy (and still is).

Every time Peter wants to change the subject, he says something like “have you heard the word?” and then bam, this song plays and he has a little dance. Lots of people have incorporated this humor into their own videos.

22. What’s Up (4 Non Blonds)

Not heard of that song title? Don’t worry. We bet you have heard of the song.

This song features HeMan (that 80s cartoon character) singing the words ‘Heyyeayaaeyaaaaeyaeyaa”. Well, OK. That was just one word, but we are sure you already know the song.

This was one of the original memes from the early YouTube days, and it is proper meme history.

23. Shooting Stars (Bag Raiders)

This meme song is often used alongside funny videos that involve people falling. It is a pretty epic song, and if you haven’t heard of it by name, you will almost certainly have heard the song.

In fact, as we write this, we are silently jamming away to it. It doesn’t get anywhere near as much use as it should, but its popularity certainly seems to be on the rise.

24. Johny Johny Yes Papa (LooLoo Kids)

Back in the early days of YouTube, some company uploaded a video of this song.

They wanted to make nursery rhyme videos for children. This one features a dad being angry at his son for eating sugar.

The video was an incredibly low quality which, of course, meant people had to parody it with their own low-quality videos. Check out a few of them.

25. Donde Esta La Bibiloteca (Danny Pudi, Donald Glover on Community)

The internet seems to have a massive amount of love for the TV show Community. In one of the earliest episodes, this song is rapped at the end of it.

It is absolutely awful Spanish (in some places), but the song spread like wildfire online. People share it all the time, and they do their own parodies on sites like YouTube and TikTok.

26. Walk The Dinosaur (Was (Not Was))

The 80s was a golden age for songs that would eventually become meme material, and this song was certainly no exception to the rule.

The lyrics ‘everybody walk the dinosaur’ was one of the earliest bait and switch memes.

People would write an epic story, and just as that story is about to hit that awesome conclusion, somebody writes “Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur”. Showing off that the piece of writing was simply not true.

27. Fresh Prince of Bel Air (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)

Most of us can probably recite the theme tune by heart, especially if we grew up in the 90s.

In fact, even if you didn’t grow up in the 90s, we are fairly confident that you know this song. It is awesome. One of Will Smith’s best hits (his Oscar one notwithstanding).

This is another bait-and-switch meme. People write an epic story about their sad life…and then as things progress, the writer starts to incorporate the song lyrics. Showing that it was a joke post and somebody probably wasted their time reading it.

28. We Are Number One (LazyTown)

LazyTown was an incredibly popular TV show in the early 2000s. While it was designed for kids, the songs were far better than they had any right to be.

A lot of them ended up becoming meme material, with all sorts of mash-ups put together of them. Perhaps one of the most popular is the ‘We Are Number One’ song. It spread around like crazy, and is still appearing today on things like TikTok.

29. Crab Rave (Noisestorm)

Want to see dancing crabs? We bet you do!

This song is nothing more than a video of crabs having the most amazing dance-off of their lives. Obviously, the whole thing is CGI. They couldn’t quite find hundreds of real dancing crabs.

However, the video spread around the internet pretty fast, and if you are ever feeling down, we reckon that you should check it out.

30. Ameno (ERA)

This is a French song that came out a couple of decades ago, but it has recently become a bit of a meme in the Twitch community. It even managed to get its own emoji.

The song itself isn’t necessarily funny, but some of the remixes are, and you can find people referring to the song on Twitch to this very day.

31. Polish Cow: Gdzie jest biały węgorz? (Cypis)

This is a song in Polish (which loosely translates to Polish Cow), that randomly popped up online one day.

Again, the song itself isn’t all that funny, but it has been used in hilarious ways. Although, most of these ways have involved some sort of dancing cow on the screen. There aren’t that many videos around, but you should still check it out.

32. Ridin’ (Chamillionaire, Krayzie Bone)

This is a song from Chamillionaire. The song has been used in plenty of video memes and image memes.

Specifically, the lyrics “they see me rollin’, they hating’. The meme is often used over something seemingly innocent, but with these cool lyrics over the top. Obviously, whatever is in the video is riding something. It is a pretty cool song.

33. Pornhub Community Intro (Pornhub)

This is a song that almost everybody knows, but nobody dares admit that they know it.

The drum beat is instantly recognizable. For a while, a lot of people would incorporate it into their videos. The idea is that you would have your sound turned up and then bam, somebody thinks you are watching Pornhub.

34. You Are a Pirate (LazyTown)

Another LazyTown meme song (we told you that the show had a ton of songs that have meme potential!).

The song is often paired with people pirating software, music, and movies. In fact, it originally started as a meme to parody those that were pirating the Windows operating system. But is now used in a whole host of different ways.

35. Big Enough (Kirin J. Callinan, Alex Cameron, Molly Lewis, Jimmy Barnes)

Ever seen that music video with the big cowboy singing in the air completely randomly? Well, that’s this song.

It is by Kirin J. Callinan. Big Enough is a country music song, with a seemingly random cowboy floating in the sky, singing (well screaming) some awesome sounds. It resulted in a lot of memes, and more than enough parodies.

36. Despacito 2 (Parody Video) (FlyingKitty)

This isn’t actually a song. It is an invented sequel to Despacito by Justin Bieber (which has also been a meme in itself).

We don’t know how long you have been around the internet, but a lot of people don’t have a whole lot of love for Justin Bieber, or the song Despacito.

For a while, people were making meme templates of Breaking News that would say things like “Breaking: Despacito 2 announced”. As we said, the original has even had a few memes like “Alexa. I’m so sad. Play Despacito”, etc.

37. America: F*** Yeah (Team America)

This is a song from the movie “Team America: World Police” by the creators of South Park.

It is meant to be a parody of how the US believes it controls the world and is the world police. The national anthem is called “America: Fuck Yeah” in the movie. It is now often used when some American starts touting America’s accomplishments.

38. Interior Crocodile Alligator (Chip tha Ripper)

This is a meme song very much in the same vein as a Rickroll. We suppose you could call it a Crocroll, but we don’t think that is an official name.

Anyway, it is a bait-and-switch video. Somebody expects something awesome, and they then get linked to a video that repeats “Interior Crocodile Alligator’ for some baffling reason. Ah. The internet.

39. Bring Me To Life (Evanescence)

“Wake Me Up. Can’t Wake Up”. Amazing song. Amazing meme potential too.

It isn’t really used as a full song for meme potential. Instead, the lyrics “Wake Me Up” and “Can’t Wake Up” are posted on two separate images, which are sort of linked.

One image is often a flipped and slightly altered version of the first image. It is as if the “Can’t Wake Up” is being used as a response. Check out a few images and some videos. We’re sure you’ll see what we mean.

40. Money Longer (Lil Uzi Vert)

For a while, there were countless YouTube videos of an animated alien (called Howard the Alien) dancing to this song.

Because the original video was made on a green screen, the Howard the Alien character has managed to work his way into many YouTube videos. Almost as a bait and switch.

41. Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Obviously, the original is a great song (from the same guys behind Freebird), but the internet can’t just let a great song be a great song.

They have to make it funnier. Sweet Home Alabama has had its lyrics rewritten to parody incest in the South of America. The song is often played after incest jokes from TV shows, etc. One of the most famous is ‘Two Broke Girls’.

42. Chocolate Rain (Tay Zonday)

Tay is a guy with a really innocent and soft face. Then he sings Chocolate Rain in the deepest voice imaginable.

The song has nonsensical lyrics sung in a very straightforward way. The song has racked up millions of views.

It even catapulted Tay to success (he is now a successful Twitch streamer, although he doesn’t sing now).

43. My Name Is Giovanni Georgio (Daft Punk)

This is a line that Daft Punk included in one of their tracks. The whole song is never used in memes. Instead, that simple line is used followed by something happening on the screen.

Something completely random e.g. Winnie the Pooh having an out-of-body experience to the starting beats of the Daft Punk song. A silly meme, but these are some of the best. Thousands of videos on YouTube to watch here.

44. NOMA – Brain Power

Another Twitch meme here. The song is very rarely played, but people copy and paste the lyrics from Brain Power all over Twitch.

The song has weird lyrics, but it has managed to rack up millions and millions of views on YouTube. We know we said this before…but the internet is crazy!

45. What Does The Fox Say? (Ylvis)

This meme song was around for a few months, but it has really stuck with us.

The song from a Scandinavian band has them questioning what sound a fox makes (after classic lyrics such as “Cow goes moo”). Then it is suddenly a crazy sound, because we suppose nobody knows what a fox actually says.

Intense song, but a good, fun listen. A lot of people now use the words “What does the fox say?” online.

46. Ram Ranch (Grant MacDonald)

More Twitch memes here, but at least this one actually promotes the video.

Ram Ranch is a song with an innocent (and rather catchy) backbeat, but with the most sexual lyrics imaginable. It is another bait and switch song, and another one that you will probably be sticking around to listen to the craziness of.

47. Photograph (Nickleback)

We, personally, find Nickleback a great band. However, the internet doesn’t seem to think so. A lot of their songs have been subject to parody, and Photograph is one of the biggest ones.

The song video features the lead singer holding up a photo frame. As you can imagine, a lot of people have parodied this song (both in video and image form), where the image in that photograph is replaced by something crazy.

48. Cooking By The Book (LazyTown)

Last LazyTown song, we swear. We saved the best until last.

This is a song that was widely used as a copypasta on 4chan, but now has a ton of remix videos on YouTube. The song, as you can probably guess by the name, is just somebody singing about cooking.

The lyrics aren’t that deep, at the end of a day it is a children’s song. The tune is insanely catchy though.

49. Soulja Boy Tell’em – Crank That (Soulja Boy)

This is a song that has a crazy dance in it. Most of the meme videos feature people doing the dance.

Basically, they are cranking that Soulja Boy, whatever that means. The song has been around for a good decade or so now, but it has recently gone through a bit of a resurgence. Specifically on social platforms such as TikTok where people just dance to it.

50. What’s New Pussycat? (Tom Jones)

This is a classic song that has meme potential. The spread started after somebody wrote a story of how the song just loops around, and you can never tell when it ends.

As you can imagine, a lot of people have created multi-hour videos of What’s New Pussycat? looping. It has proper meme potential in real-life situations where people have queued the song up on jukeboxes. Despite its possible to the annoyance of everybody in the room.

51. Bananaphone (Raffi)

Classic meme song here. ‘Ring Ring, Bananaphone’. This meme started to gain popularity in 2004, with many people producing flash videos of a dancing banana to the song.

Eventually, it crept into other videos. It was an early meme, so it isn’t being used all that much, but we still stick around and listen whenever we see it pop up on our YouTube feed.

52. 4 Chords (Axis of Awesome)

This is a song that shows that pretty much every popular song in existence has followed the same 4 chord structure.

It gained millions and millions of views and catapulted Axis of Awesome to international stardom. Eventually, people were parodying the song. Coming up with their own ways that popular hits (and not-so-popular hits) could conform to that 4-chord structure.

53. Let it Go (From Frozen) (Idina Menzel)

Frozen is probably one of the most popular recent Disney movies. One song is an absolute banger “Let it Go”.

For a while, a lot of people started to quote and use this song as a way to tell people to just relax a little bit. Y’know, just ‘Let it Go’. It would find itself at the end of videos of people crying or just being angry.

If you’re a fan of Frozen, you’ll most likely be interested in our compilation of classic Disney songs.

54. Oh No (Capone)

This is a meme song from the 1960s, that has absolutely infested TikTok. Seen a video that ends with “oh no. oh no. oh no oh no”? Well, that is this song.

It is often used when people make a mistake on camera, or say something controversial. However, it is wildly popular, and people use it for just about anything they want.

55. Ievan Polkka (Loituma)

This song gained popularity with a dancing video of a cat. You know the one. A cat just nods its head.

It is a J-Pop song from a Scandinavian artist. The song is now used in various dancing videos, mostly related to animals.

56. San Andreas Theme (NWA and Snoop Dogg)

This is the theme from the Grand Theft Auto game (San Andreas, if you hadn’t guessed).

It is a banging song, and it is often used at the end of people doing something rather cool. Chances are that you have seen countless videos that wrap up with this song…you just didn’t know the name of it.

57. Mr. Brightside (The Killers)

This meme song is often paired with videos of people or animals coming out of their cages or escaping from something.

Obviously, this is paired with the lyrics “coming out of my cage, and I’m doing just fine”. Obviously, it is a great song in itself. Apparently, it hasn’t left the British charts since it was released well over a decade ago.
